I am a private pig sanctuary. I am NOT a non-profit organization, so donations are not tax deductible, though very, VERY much appreciated. The pigs have many needs and I work full time to provide for them but it's a struggle both time-wise and financially.
The resident pigs currently consume about 125 pounds of pelleted feed a day at about $10 for a 50 pound bag/$650 a month. I don't know if the store where I buy feed could/would take payments on behalf of the pigs' weekly feed, but they may. They do take credit cards. It is Arcade Lumber, Arcade, NY Ph 585-492-2700 Tom or Doug could make the decision.
We use about 300 bales of hay throughout the winter at about $4 a bale. With all of the rain this year, there may be no hay to buy or it may be much more costly than normal if found. Still searching. Straw is nice but hard to fine.
Shavings during the winter run about $5.60 a bag and we use at least 10 bags a week, as the pigs are all in the barn due to our harsh winters. Tractor Supply has gift cards, I believe, if anyone would like to donate shavings. They will not take payments over the phone.
There is almost always an outstanding vet bill at the Perry Veterinary Clinic (Perry, NY 585-237-5550). If anyone wanted to contribute to current or future vet bills the account is under Dawn Camp. I no sooner get it to $0 than a need arises and it's back up to a few hundred $ even though I do most things myself.
I understand people's reluctance to donate to an "unknown" entity. There are a lot of scams, therefore I've suggested the TSC gift cards or donating directly to the vet or feed store.
Fencing materials are always appreciated and used in safe condition is OK.
Cattle panels, hog panels and T-posts (6' or +) are always on the list as new fence lines are added and old repaired. My dream is to one day have the entire perimeter fenced in cattle panels or field fence (access for that is not easy and I don't have a tractor).
I can always use pressure treated lumber (1x6 and 2x6 @ 6' long and up) from folks who are replacing their decks and I have a trailer, so can pick up if not too far.
Volunteers are appreciated...strong backs for cleaning the barn and sheds, those with building skills and tools for pig house repairs, others who can help with trimming/spraying fence lines and putting up new fence. I do have to be careful to keep things very quiet, though, as the warthogs do not appreciate strangers and tend to get panicky when strangers are about the property or in the barn. In the past we have had to change plans when they've become dangerously (to themselves) agitated. We don't have a lot of visitors/volunteers as a result.
Thanks so very much!
